Toughened Glass

Central Glass and Glazing has worked on hundreds of installations requiring toughened (tempered) glass. Tempered glass is ordinary glass which has been toughened by a process of heating, followed by rapid cooling. This process creates a glass which is up to five times stronger than its original state. Toughened glass can take a far greater impact than regular glass before fracturing, aiding prevention of serious injury. If the glass pane does break, it simply shatters into small granules with no jagged edges.

Typical uses for toughened glass include: glass facades, sliding doors, building entrances, bath and shower enclosures and other uses requiring superior strength and safety.

Toughened glass can be 'heat soaked' to provide a superior quality making the pane much less susceptible to fracture from nickel sulphide inclusions. The risk of breakage from nickel sulphide inclusions in heat soaked toughened glass is less than 1 in 100,000kg.
